Awesome
10pm internet crisis averted ;)
This is why we do revs checks on cars before we buy them
Seriously though would you honestly check the rego, the engine number on the vin AND then go crawling around under a car trying to find an engine number on the engine?
I mean honestly?

Well his original question was
can u check if a motor is stolen or not by telling rta the engine number?
yes.
He just wanted to check if the RTA could tell him over the phone.

i think, reading between the lines, that he wants to know if he rings up and says "hey can you check if this engine is stolen", gives them the number they aren't going to go
"Yes it is. The police will be there in an hour to confiscate your car and question you with regards to possession of stolen property and generally sodomize you with whatever they feel like at the time"
Cos i'm sure if that is the case he would rather just drive round and hope noone ever notices! :P
And i would have to say odds are someone on here will no what happens in this situation cos they are such a law abiding lot! (note sarcasm :P )

a Revs check will also check info on the history of the vehicle, so if it has had an engine swap and the new motor registered with the RTA, it will be recorded as a "clear title" if the engine and Chassis numbers dont match up, you might have a dodgy one - i recently purchased an unrego'd car being hidden away on a property in a shed after being in town for a few years, I checked and double checked the info with REVS - came back ok.
I picked up a car a few years ago with an engine number that didnt match the chassis number, or the engineers report, they stamped it with "subject to RTA identity check" for the blue-slip, and the RTA Ok'd it when I paid rego... no hassles

well i did run a rev check but as i was supplied the wrong motor numbers on the rego it was pointless so yeh

dont worry about it, just keep driving it until you get pulled over. and then say it was in the car when you bought it

well if u want to know if the motor is stolen go out to your car pop the bonnet and if there is no motor in the engine bay its been stolen lol
if you really care like i used to about if mine was stolen i wouldnt worry how old are the 4ages if it is stolen the car that it was stolen out of had been crushed and the person who had the motor stolen off them have loged a file with the police and the matter has gone through insurance he has gotten a payout and the motor is now in your car all u have to say is u bought the car in good faith and you had no idea that the motor was stolen but i doubt the previous owner would want the motor back unless they kept the shell lol i hope that puts u at a little ease
