Hey 86DCers
just wondering how many KMs are you guys doing with a full tank of 98 without ripping it too hard.
I basicaly done a full service except fuel filter (this weekend for sure) and im only doing 320km tops

Car: 86' AE86
Engine: JDM 4AGE
How do i drive? mainly larger roads (for sydneysiders: hume hwy+ M5)
KMs/tank/petrol: 320km- BP98OCT

for a 1.6L thats pretty shithouse. Let me know and any tips on how to save abit of petrol would be helpful (daily car)

i have no idea how much on a full tank but i get around 9l /100km thats medium to hard driving.
How much will a adm tank hold?
and with a jap 4a-ge do i need to use that valve saver fluid stuff? "makes it safe to run unleaded petrol in leaded engines" or wateva it says on the bottle???
ive only had it for like 7 months and the old owner just had it in the car so :/

I get 8.5L/100 usually in traffic and down to

Car: aussie ae86- my adm tank is 40L- no arguments
Engine: lightly modded 20v with Wolf
How do i drive? stop and start and some short crusing in traffic
KMs/tank/petrol: I get 8.5L/100 usually but when I drove to Winton it went to 6L/100 or 670km/tank. I think I have a lot more in it with some tuning which I will do.

tezza, either you drive on the high way in second gear, have a fuel leak or your engine is not performing as it should.

i was getting 650km from my 4ac with exhaust and carb. conservative highway driving

you think v8's are bad, you should get a gq patrol... 450km out of 130 litres... works out to about 32L per 100kms :(

far out how do you guys put up with this fuel milage?

if i dont get 10L/100km i start ripping my car appart trying to find the problem.

i usually get around 8L/100 with standard driving. bit of highway, bit of suburban. (stocko bigport 4age)

not driving like a grandma, but not driving like peter brock either. rev it here and there, but in general fairly sedate.

howeever if i hit up mt nebo, full throttle up hills kills it, but prolly no worse than 11-12L/100.

forget any valve saver stuff for any of these engines, just bung in standard unleaded and youll be fine, i find 98octane i get good milage.

even 95 is fine, just dont run ethanol.

here is one for you:

car: jzx100
eng: vvti 1jz no shit........blitz air filter, full 3 inch exhaust (no cat), stock boost 10psi and auto trans
driven to and from work (22kms each way, all 80 zone, barely come on boost on the way to work in the mornings)

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/50042.jpg

that was full to the brim, i got 59 litres of BP ultimate in there and got 517kms out of it

geez thats not bad at all mate.

and your getting a heap more bang for you buck (litterally!) than my 4age gives me

how does it go with enthusiastic driving though? not drifting as such, but maybe an enthusiastic hills drive.

ahah not bad at all mate. i'd be happy if it did 450km/tank half highway half suburban
mines stocko +exhaust and could be my crummy pod i need to change.
well its going into the mech to see if the lines are leaking or what not tomorrow and check my timing (which sounds fine by human ears)
but for now, cityrail is the go

that's pretty damn good, ever towed anything with it? thinking about getting one as a daily

Frak
31st July 2010, 02:10 PM
My daily is an AE111 5 speed
daily driving to work I get 7.2-7.4ltr/100km (doesn't matter if I thrash or cruise, it gets about the same)
if I do a bit of highway driving it drops into the low 6.0's/100km and if I do alot of highway driving(sitting on 110km/h) I can get it into the high 5.0'sltr/100km EASY.
I find if I run Shell V-Power it gets slightly better fuel economy than BP Ulitimate.

I once had an RGV250 that could empty 17litres of pulp in 115km :(
I also had a Peripheral ported 13B RX3, when it was on a weber carb(later Autronic efi) and revving it out(10,700rpm) it would get about 65ltr/100km :crying:

we have talked extensively on jzx100.com bout towing with em..........id say 85% of people dont recommend it. but then again, there are a few pics floating around of guys with a 6x4 towing a few motos.

i wouldnt tow much more tho, i dont think the chassis in the rear is designed for it

I bought an FC. It was so terrible on fuel (~15-16l/100 never boosting it and worse on boost) compared to my corolla (4age: ~8l/100) that I sold it. Now I have a SR silvia (~9l/100).

sorry to bump up an old thread, my 4ac is getting around 300km-350 k's on a 50L tank of bp98, i do live in a hilly area of the dandenongs but i dont thrash it, i was expecting the fuel economy to be a bit better then my forester gt...
sound like i need a tune up? i'm pretty sure i need to adjust the tappets but everything else is good like timing, full sevice done less then a week ago incl air filter and plugs

Car: 81 Scorpion
Engine: 4G54, 63rwkw
Diff ratio: 3.308:1
How do i drive? ~ 50/50 cruising on country roads @ around 140 and country town traffic, with the occasional "tuff lap" of the main street when I'm bored :P
KMs/tank/petrol: Best I've got was 427km out of 60l using BP95. It needs a tune though.

Car: 89 Magna
Engine: 4G54B, 101fwkw(94 Magna)
Diff ratio: 4.01:1
How do i drive? Thrashed it :P City driving around Canberra
KMs/tank/petrol: 520km/60l/BP91

Apparently well-tuned EFI 4G54 pwns out of tune carby 4G54 in both power AND economy. Pwns a stock 20v too...................................

i got between 430 and 470 per tank depending on how much windy roads were around with my 4ac, now with the 4age, if i got on a run in the hills for a few hours im still getting 350+ per tank, strill running standard 44l corolla tank

i had a chat to the mechanic and he did a system check and a timing check to why its burning so much, everything seems to be working fine and he told me to get the injectors reconditioned/cleaned up for about 10bux at the local spare parts store.
Havent done so yet but will be doing it soon
hope it boosts my mileage from 320km/tank (bigport 4AGE) to somewhere near 400-450
