i've heard alot of stories about roll cages being legal if u put padding on it
and taking out the interior (eg. carpet, panels etc} if there are no sharp edges
jsut want to be sure before i start taking stuff out
also, would it save much weight by doing this?
thanks

Roll cages need to be engineered if its a full cage..... u'll get away with a have cage, though u obviously cant have rear seats or rear seat belts.

As for interior, theres nothing in vic roads (according to my rwc place) thats says you need carpet. But i rekon u'll need some plastic coverings as there a sharp things behind them.

The best (cheap) way to loose weight from taking interior stuff out is sripping the sound deading from the chassis.... we weighed all of mine when we pulle dit out...total of 14kgs.

putting in a roll cage past the driver is not legal and in saying that that means no people are allowed in the back coz of the roll cage.... http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif as for the interior being stripped my car has no carpet and most stuff has been taken out.. i had a copper pull me over and he did'nt say anything about the interior..... http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif but then again i think he was more pissed at me drifting out of t intersection ... http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/blink.gif

yeah it sucks but thats the way it is! harnesses and roll cages alter seating capacity which is something that has to be changed on your rego. cages have to be padded anywhere you head may contact. harnesses also need to be ADR approved, (such as the one i'm currently selling in 4 sale section!!). all cages and harnesses mounts have to be inspected by an approved officer, so you can get a blue modification plate that say's it's all legit. (that's qld at least don't know about other states)
