yes its worth it.

i had this idea for a while that it would be great to buy an auto sprinter, as it would not have been thrashed etc.

then i remembered that people who drive autos can;t drive, and it would be covered in shopping trolley dents and most likely have a flogged out engine from them "leaving it in first"

if the body is straight, buy it. mehcnaicals are easy to come by.

yeah, yet it for sure!
i never knew they came in auto in AUS?
infact, i'm pretty sure they didn't.

You can easily swap the box etc.
Maybe it has been converted to auto with a AE71 gearbox?
does the chassis plate say T50?

If the shell is in good condition it would be alright, but the rust element will always be there with a 20+ year old car. and yeah, the conversion parts arent that much of a concern as long as you're shell is'nt going to cost copious amounts of money to repair. things like t50s are'nt hard to come by if you're looking in the right places.
And the automatic was a fairly limited model, but i think most of them we're killed off pretty fast correct me if i'm wrong.

i havent read much of the thread, but it would definately be worth buying.

$500 is cheap as chips for a sprinter, and when/if you do your 4age conversion (assuming its still 4ac, and someone wasnt stupid enough to do an auto 4age converstion) you will be able to have your new manuel T50, clutch flywheel etc all bolted up and ready to go in before you even dissconnect a single thing in the 86... personally id see it as an advantage
