they are not the same.

the lift on the 4AGE is 7.56/7.56 (IN/EX), where as the 4AGZE is 7.1/7.1

I disagree shortround.

Apparently only the early bigport GEs came with the 240deg/7.56mm cams. Opinion is divided over which cams the AW11 GZE came with.

Otherwise late bigports (GE and GZE) and all smallports (GE and GZE) run the 232deg/7.1mm cams.

Have a search around and see what you find. Also I'm pretty sure Mattyshop knows alot about this.

sorry I should have stated that I was talking about the bigport.

have a look here: http://my.tele2.ee/levintrueno/engine/engine.htm it states that all bigport 4ag's run 7.56mm lift, and the smallport is 7.1mm

the bigport GZE came with 232's

you can actually feel the difference in duration with a 232 and a 240.. 8 deg doesn't sound like much.. but you can tell

here are the part numbers, to stop the confision

232's - intake 13501-16030
232's - ex 13502-16020

240's - intake 13501-16010
240's - ex 13502-16010

does anyone know of the base timing specs for a bigport? or where i can get them?

base timing (jumper T1 and E1 in diag box) is simply 10deg...

you'll notice it run like poo with it on just 10..
on idle a good setting (providing you use no less than 98RON fuel) if everything like ignition etc is up to scratch is 20-25deg..

i'm running a microtech, and GZE coils so should i just adjust it up untill it starts detonating under load?

i guess.. a trick i used to do with carbi cars..

pull the vac advance off (not applicable here)
hold the revs at about 3500-4000 and adjust timing more and more till it pings a bit, then back it off 5 deg from there..

tighten it up and go for a drive.. it depends on what your microtech was tuned though.. take a 12mm spanner with you over the next few days if you hear it ping, back it off bit by bit

when i get my throttle bodies on i'll book it in for a proper tune and they should be able to sort it out for me....
