scared yet?

it actually looks as though a previouse owner had paid a panel shop to fix it.
but instead of cutting the affected arears out they just grinded it back a bit and bogged it.
so it looks like it has been snowing in my garage at the moment due to me grindind out all the bog.

I have just ordered some POR 15 permenent rust stopper, this stuff is the best for treating rust http://www.ppc.au.com/index.htm
i will be using fibre glass to re mould all the holes, im trying to do a good job so hopefully i wont have to do it again.

wish me luck.

Thats bad dude.
I HATE rust!!!!

I have a little emerging at the moment that I am going to have to tackle. I am worried about the tip of the iceberg theory.
All my Toyota's have given me hell over the years for rust.
The only Toyota's that I have ever kept from rust are those that I kept dry in a garage.

i had a similar sitiuation with mine, had a little bit of damage on the left rear qtr panel, courtesy of some fuck wit in a shopping centre carpark, and my smash guy saw it rang me, and told me he had found it fixed it, etc etc...

sharpie i have some bad news for you,
those 10cent size holes you have found will be the centre of a wider affected area on the metal, prob under the paint and on the other side of the metal.
and just prey that your not looking at a previously repaired rust area which has flared up again.
wen you fix it go hard with the grinder keep going till you find fresh metal.
for treating it look up that site that i put up a link for on the 1st page, that stuff is the best

jeez.. im lucky my AW11 has no rust. in the UK and US it is shocking.. all around the gaurds is choppy and rusted, aswell as the front and rear bumper/skirt things. if y'all think yours is bad, just think about those americans with their rusty ae86's.

alot of the 80's toyotas seem to rust pretty bad. my mates mum's tarago is constantly popping up with more spots of rust... and some always seems to be taken out.

so just get it while you can. before it gets too bad.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/111384.jpg

atleast you didnt have to replace the WHOLE GUARD LIP.

it had been repaired before, in japane, they cut the whole guard lip off and used small thin stainless steel patches to re-build the lip ROUGHLY, then bogged over it to re create the shape, in some places well over 10mm thick http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

thats not really good enough, and pretty fragile (15x8.5 -5 = rub = bog cracking and falling out!).

so i cut some allmost 100% rust free guard lips off a donor ae86 and welded them back onto mine. just a light skim of filler over the join and a little above to flatten out the warpidge from the welding.

notice the area behind the wheel arch? where the bumper covers. look a little differant? the seam on the rear pockets was completely rusted away.. so i just cut the pocket off and plated it up.

Heh, rust doesn't scare me anymore. I was an old holden fan before I got into imports, and did my fair share of rust conversion, repair and prevention. My hachi is going to get the full-over before I try and mods at all. Easy stuff do to at home too, just need a bit of time and some cheap materials.
