Hey guys just wondering, how high of maintenance cost for your AE86 engine wise?
Turbo, and/A, 4age.

What the avg expensive you guys spend for maintenance? and is it hard to get parts (in WA)?
Thankou muchly in advance =D

Simple answer is most engines are the same to maintain. Plugs, oil, oil filter, air filter, general things like that. A service from an auto shop costs about a hundred bucks, you can do it for much less if you do it yourself. Unless you mean rebuilding engines when they wear out.

You can get almost anything if you look hard enough and wait long enough.

Agreed, general maintenance is pretty easy to do, if you don't have the expertise or time a mechanic can generally do it for about the $100 or so mark, depending if they find anything dramatic that needs replacing.

As for long-term maintenance, generally the parts are extremely strong, and assuming you don't do anything stupid (or they are set up correctly) then breakage of parts should rarely be a problem.

Does this help at all? :)

4AGs were in corollas as well so there are lots of parts around and they arent very expensive. Maintenance should be the least of your worries...

Ah ok thanks, know any place best suited looking for parts?

<be>driftspec:</be>
Yes it certainly does, thank you so much. That's good to know that the parts are strong.

Ah thats very true, can probably cross-version with parts hey?

Speaking of strength/durability of parts, anyone know how durable is the 4AG engine? because my father says engine parts' availablity is hard to come by, since it's a very old engine. He's work on it before long ago, this is like when I was in primary and didn't even know anything about AE86. He says getting parts is hard. Japan probably have stop manuacturing. I don't question his expertise he loves Toyota very much though so far all our cars are Toyota hehe. Just wondering. Thanks in adv~

Working at repco, general maintenance parts are easy to get, plugs filters, oil... Z386 was used on most early 90's toyotas.
You're still able to get full rebuild kits from toyota as well as ACL and probably stacks of other aftermarket companies.

Any parts place can help you out with a corolla motor :)

if 4ac motor break you usually just find another to replace it. not a lot goes wrong with them. having said that the standard carbies often give trouble and cannot be tuned, a lager one (e.g. 32/36 down draught Weber) will give more power, around 10hp if tuned correctly and a electronic dizzy is also a good upgrade from a standard and older point system which can cause trouble.

What, with like a feather duster? Although I've heard that they can only be used on Nissans :P

*ducks for cover*

A lot of 4A parts (in general) are easily accessible, either from Toyota, the wreckers, importers, resellers, the lot. And as has been said, most Corolla parts are very well supported by all parts places, so you won't have any issues there. As for the 4AG motor, it is very durable, and withstands great punishment and still comes back for more... consistently. Thats the great thing about Toyota motors, is that they are built incredibly strong and resilient.
