there is no conversion kit so to speak but if your looking for a engine mount and g box crossmember made up to suite ca18det into ae86 kaizen does do the them but i wouldn't realy recomend them as he took bloody ages to send them to me and the welding on them was shithouse however you can use rb20 mounts for engine mounts and make up your own crossmember for the gearbox yourself.

CA's have to many issues, if your spending the money, you may as well go for an SR, MUCH more reliable and have had much more development.

What you using the car for? would a GZE suffice?

I am by no means going to spark up the SR vs CA debate thats not my intention. However, if SR's are more developed, then Michael Jackson was never black. Aside from the all-alloy construction & dli they're pretty primitive. Rocker arms, timing chain etc.

Ca18's are NOT as unreliable as everybody claims; they are an AWESOME motor but they suffer from oil degradation/starvation. Easily fixed by adding an oil cooler, an external drain from the head to the sump (because the oil pump puts too much pressure in the head at high revs), and changing the oil regularly. That, and after maybe 100,000K's and 25 years the bearings in most get pretty tired, so its a good idea to whack new ones in. Apart from that, CA's will go and go.

most people don't realise how good motors CA's are and they go straight for SR20's.. i dunno about you but i don't drive an AE86 because i have alot of cargo to haul around, so why put a truck motor in one?


back onto your first question... Kaizen Garage up here in QLD makes a "mounting kit" for CA18.. consisting of some extremely dodgy examples of Engine Brackets, Urethane engine mounts, and a gearbox crossmember. Or as someone said you can use RB20 engine mounts instead.. but i haven't confirmed this.

Apart from the mounts, getting the engine in there is very simple, the inlet manifold support bar thingo fouls on the steering column, but you don't really need it so chuck it. You can use a CA18 gearbox, but it will put the shifter 100mm further back, or you can use an RB20 box with a CA18 bellhousing to fix that. Think you'd need an RB clutch too. not sure.

Agreed....

convential bolt in conversion kits leave alot to be desired as far as engine postition goes....why go thru the effort of putting a ca18/sr20 into the car if u have to live with having a high/forward sitting engine, we all know that it doesnt do wonders for the cars handling......u also have the problem with gearbox/clutch changes due to the fitment, correctly made mounts would make this so much easier to do and without the hassle of bashing the firewall for clearance or even having to pull the whole engine out to replace a clutch

the kaizen mounts put the engine in a really good position, low and close to the firewall.. just their design and more importantly construction leaves more to be desired.

as for changing clutches YES! totally impossible without taking the engine out, you just can't get to soem of the bolts. Also changing the starter motor is VERY difficult.

now as for ca18

ive been heavily involed with bahnuggets car, and i cant recommend ca18 into ae86 more. very straight forward, and the money to power ratio is great.

nothing wrong with CA18's and SR's, they are both old engines, and SR being superior? sounds very nissan boganish to me.

CA's are great motors, with great potential, but they are getting a little old so you gota treat them nicely.

ps: im almost certain that if you use a K motor engine crossmember (cross memeber out of a ke70, will bolt into your ae86) and you use RB engine mounts, the CA will bolt up, there was a few guys over at rollaclub.com that have done this. maybe have a look over there for confirmation.
