i need to mount it properly though, been cable tied for months ROFL although with like 100 cable ties so its actually pretty solid

Brade is not cheap.. and the fittings are like 25 - 30 bux each and u need 4 or 6 for each length of brade which u need 3 lengths of.. u need to get a relocation kit. or buy it all individual, i personally don't know of any good kits i could suggest thou someone would. The core is prolly the cheapest...

I'm after a good sandwich plate aswell, a Full flow aftermarket style, so i can buy a core, mount that then run my own lines. I don't think i will bother with filter relocation because its pretty easy to get to where it is. If anybody knows a good full flow sandwich plate that fits let us know :2thumbs:

also consider getting a sandwich plate with an inbuilt thermostat. OR matbe sheild the whole oil cooler surface with plate in the colder months.

^^^ yeah thats a good point.

i don't really think there is much of a need for an oil cooler on the street anyway, because oil is no good if its too cold anyway.

thus the need for a thermostat

if you go for a easy drive on a cold winters night, with your cooler flowing 100%....you are more than likely slowly killing your engine.

full flow sandwich plate is only good if you are using a early gen RX7 oil cooler core as they have the thermostat built into the cooler not the sandwich plate ;)

what about the oil cooler setup in an ae92 with the smallport 16V ? Is there a thermostat anywhere in that system or is it full flow?
Cheers

Neither - no thermostat and only bypass flow

Has a spring behind a piston. When oil pressure exceeds a certain amount it allows the piston to slide back and allow oil through the cooler which returns direct to sump. Another thing - make sure if you do go for a remote cooler and filter set up you get the lines the correct way around - otherwise anti drain back valve = starvation. I now know 2 people personally who have got this wrong and paid the price!

I tried an Earls and thermostatic and it didn't fit the right way. It would work for a GZE or FWD with the starter on the other side.

I have a GREX/TRUST one now and that almost fits. Need to shave bit off the mounts on the block to make it fit perfectly. Its a cast iron piece with inbuilt thermostatic.

I will be trying to mount mine similar to what sprinters got overseas. It mounts in 3 spots, radiator support, lower support and vertical latch support. If you look carefully you will notice 3 threaded holes already in place for them (areas mentioned). Tricky part is making a bracket to match those positions when using an aftermarket cooler. Just being anal. Will post pics when I get round to building it.

Has anyone had issues of the fwd oil cooler sandwich plate hitting engine mounts or other brackets when the 4age was put in rwd ae86?
