how hard is it to set one up? is it worth it? i am thinking about getting rid of the sedan and going a wagon or a pano. want something with a bit more room so i can fit my drum kit and stuff like that in but still slide it.
any input would be swell

yeah they can, few ways to go about it,

even if they dont their sexiness makes up for it.

can you convert the rear to a strut and spring setup or can you get stiff leaf thingys?

both have been done before.

probably easier sourcing a good leaf spring setup that eliminates axle tramp combined with good shocks and possibly an ajps sway bar.

wagons twist a lot more too... boat spec

the rear conversion to strut is not easy and takes some fabrication work. but a lot of guys run flipped rear leaves, not a simple as it sounds... you flip some of the leaves and possibly delete one or two in the process... but good results can be had through such a process, I can't remember where i saw the best write-up on it, probably on the old forum tech articles. have a dig around for info on tweaking rear leaves, they're not as useless as you'd think in the rear of a wagon... and you'll save $$$ if you work em out.

yeh wagon's aren't that good unless you do alot of work. most likely a coil conversion. i think having alot of power could compensate for their shitty rear end too.

i have a wagon!! there cool as, axle tramp fails almost as hard as clinton fails at life....

pretty much if you want a performance car....dont build a wagon

good dailys however, mine slides just fine but anything slightly serious and you would start to notice it strugling

bit sad isn't it:( i used to have a ke30 but the ke70 was so much better with coil rear suspension and r+p steering. i used to think they were so ugly too haha

That first pic is not a wagon made into a 2 door.

It's a factory setup from Japan, with rear windows. Basically a panelvan without the panels in the back. I have the exact same setup.

As for rear end, its pretty shitty. It can be made stiffer by getting leaves reset etc, but not really worth if you want a competitive drift car. I would stay stick with what you already have. Take the rear seats out if you need more room!

How hard would it be to do a 4 link/coilover set up in one?

Hokey

i can be done well or cheaply or easily. all depends on you fab skills an the tools you have.

from what i saw in my mates setup in his pannel van you need to shift th tank back to get some room for the coilovers an panhard rod. pm matt99 if you're interested

i used to have completly flipped leafs in mine... didnt work out for the best....
so now i have changed it all...
reset leafs as low as they can go and put lowering blocks in with kyb seirra shocks, i havent run with them yet but i think i will need a sway bar.

going to see how it goes for the time being

Yeah, completly flipped is'nt great, the middle two flipped works though, try to get rid of your lowering blocks.

Sprinter rear sway bar will work, add mounts to the diff, then the body mounts meet the rails perfectly, drill some holes and your done. PM me if you need more info.

Yes and no. Having had an IRS set up from a S13 sitting under my panno, I found the "top front arm" mount on the cradle fouls the chasis rail BADLY and would therefore the rail need to be cut and moved. Or you could move the arm itself but getting it back into a suitable spot would be hard, in the long run I have found it is probably much easier to do an IRS set up instead of what I have done (added S13 coilovers to T series in the panno). Theres lots of fab work involved.

If you want my advice for some cheap fun skids in your wagon, get custom leafs made (or if you dont have the money, get yours reset), add a sway bar (very easy) and also add a panhard rod which is the hardest addition if you want it to be super effective, if you just want it for some extra stabilisation then a shortened one can be made up quite easily.

If anyone needs help with stuff that is wagon/panel van related, feel free to PM me, would be more than happy to help. Ill soon have pics up of my new rear suspension set up for those who are interetsed.
