Car - AE86

motor / part in question - Inner Tie Rod/Rack End

problem - Worn

Well my mechanic has told me that mine are on their way out and I'm looking to replace them.
I've been looking around and have found a few alternatives to stock ones these are
- Ueo Style Over Angle Tie Rods
- Uras Super Tie Rod
- AJPS rack end

I'm just looking to get other peoples opinions on what they've used and pros/cons which was worth it
Also I have power steering in my AE86 if that matters.

Thanks,
Chee

Fairly sure power steering makes things harder as the rack ends are shorter than a manual rack?

I had new RA40 or 60 rack ends put on, when I went to XT130 control arms, as they are the same thread on both ends and are longer to accommodate the LCA change. What are you actually looking for in regards to other rack ends?

I used standard rack ends with my xt130 arms, any reason for the change? I was always given the impression that most of not all aftermarket extra lock rack ends damaged the seals on power racks, any merit in this?

I was looking to get more lock.
So if I have a ps rack I'll need the ps version of the tie rods or will non ps tie rods fit?

Hang on, are you talking about rack ends, tie rod or tie rod ends? New rack ends won't give you more lock unless they are designed to.

Rack ends as these AJPS ones http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/showthread.php/64648-NEW-PRODUCT-AJPS-extra-lock-rack-ends
Though on some pages they call them inner tie rods.

Yep, on the same page. Go the AJPS ones if you want more lock, his stuff is on the money.

Power steering racks don't have any un-used teeth unlike manual racks do, so I don't see how it's possible to gain any extra lock with any of these rack ends with a power rack? Also, i'm not 100% but i'm pretty sure all your options listed above are all for manual racks only as well. If you want heaps of lock in an ae86, you're options are pretty limited without converting to a manual rack unfortunately. Inner tie rods are rack ends, just another name for the same thing.

Just did a reread of AJPS's thread and no one's tried it yet.
Seems I may just have to get stock ones to replace my worn ones till I get around converting to a manual rack then.

I'm using URAS ones, and they work great. At full lock the tyres clear the chassis, so no rubbing either.

I'm pretty sure URAS make a power steering specific tie rod for the 86. I think the length is different to compensate for the different rack length.

Sorry, I was talking about a manual rack... Forgot you had a ps rack.

I have an ADM AE86 with manual steering, used purely for circuit racing. The standard rack ends are worn and need replacing.

Are Genuine parts still available from Toyota or is there a better option?

genuine should still be available but would be expensive, compared to aftermarket ones.
could try repco/sprints for standard aftermarket replacement.

pm me i have some brand new aftermarket rack ends $20 plus post
