thought i'd put up a build thread on my newest project since it's a bit different to the other cars that I’ve owned in the past
it’s a 1988 318i e30 always loved these things but I’ve always bought a Toyota instead up till now, this one was so cheap I couldn’t say no
<How it looked when i got it>

this car will be replacing my old ke70 that i crashed at Calder adgp last year
This is what it looked like after i got some wheels and chopped the springs and welded the diff very unique mods for a bmw
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/4/537216.jpg
But what worked on a kesev didn’t work on the bimmer and it lost its shit at this point it wasn’t looking to good on the side of the road out in the middle of no where with a smashed alloy sump
27877
so I got some proper coilovers and raised it up a bit and drove it again this time with a lot more success :)) as much as I like low cars it’s just not going to happen with where I live
27878
mods so far include
320i rear swaybar
xyz coilovers
16x9 -0 all round with 195/45/16
fog lights
Welded diff

So Boss!
When is a 1j getting fitted?
Don’t tempt me if I didn’t already have a beams sitting in the garage at the moment I probably would have gone a 1j
this is the plan at the moment I’ve got a really clean 3s beams sitting in the garage at the moment with a 3vz 4runner bellhousing bolted up, then a 2009 r155 5speed bolted up to that it looks to be the same as a late model r154 but the input shaft is shorter the ratios are different and the shifter is also different more forward
I still need to sort out a starter motor clutch flywheel and also need to get my hands on a jzx100 shifter it looks like it should bolt up to the r155 gearbox
27889
3 out of the main bellhousing bolts line up and all the dowel pins do so there shouldn’t be any alignment issues just need to tig up that last bolt hole so it fits
27890
this show how well the r155 shorter input shaft fits with the beams just need to get a spigot bearing as it use to be an auto if it all fits it will be good

wrong again I’m going to turbo it that’s the reason it got an r155 attached to it :P the bottom end looks the same as the turbo 3sge in the Caldina except the pistons are different for higher comp this is from what of read so if I’m wrong let me know I’m just going to boost it and see what happens but that will be ages away got plans for a cage bucket seat and get it on track first

got some xyz coilovers in a complete kit with base height adjustment and damper adjustment its got a complicated strut so I’ve had to cut the bottom of it off and weld on the bottom of the coilover onto it ill get some pic’s up soon
Also picked up a custom flywheel today that should suit the gearbox ill have to see when I get a clutch and starter motor

this is what flywheel looks like holds a 225mm clutch i think it was based off a beams flywheel to convert early 3sge's to rwd
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/4/505353.jpg
got a cheap clutch off a 1985 hilux it had the right bolt pattern and the 21 spline input shaft fitted perfect
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/4/505354.jpg
just a quick pic off the front coilovers as i said i would, i had to cut the bottom of the strut off and then press on a weld on sleeve that holds the coilover to the knuckle
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/4/505355.jpg
also wanted to see what it would look like with a turbo on the side very tempting indeed
