But back in the late 90's when i was racing karts i used to tow a box trailer with canopy , two karts and all the gear behind my 4AG powered Ae86

ah bummer, I thought you would have something unusual. Now towing another behind an 86 isn't a good idea, generally going over 2/3 of the weight of the tow vehicle is a bad idea even with a braked trailer. Besides the tow bar kits are pretty crude in how they attach.

Yes tow bars are best used as rear end stiffeners/fuel tank protection in an ae86. Unless your just knocking around with a little trailer or boat. I saw a guy trying to tow a vt on a trailer with a vl once. He was backwards in the fast lane of the Centenary Motorway at peak hour.

Had an accident once where a car came into the back of me hard, and the tow bar in my ae71 stopped his vehicle short of crushing my tank by about 10mm. Well worth it just for safety, makes the rear end more compliant in an uncaged car also.

Yikes! What about a frame rather than trailer? Would just be the weight of the car, track car would weigh less than road car
