Your back!
Think it is about time that i got around to doing one of these threads,
I've owned this car for a bit over 2 years now, i bought it originally from japanese motorsport after having a couple of previous sprinters, this was my first experience in having something that was actually JDM and i enjoyed driving it every day to and from tafe, as well as delivering pizzas around the hills in it by night. (insert ADM takumi joke here)
the car when i first got it
I did all the compliance work on the car originally, which was a fairly simple project - the car was pretty much bog standard and even an auto, so it passed the compliance inspection easily.
i then proceeded to put all of the parts that i had been collecting over the years that i was going to put on another coupe shell i had (now the buddy parts drift machine)
Daily/track mode
So with some coilovers, and a few other basic mods i drove the car daily and did a couple of track days in it before it got defected. I was then on my way to pick up some of the bits to get the defect cleared when i was rear ended by a taxi which put the car off the road for 5 months while the crash repairer took his time fixing it.
The car eventually made it back onto the road with no more defects, and then came off again almost straight away to make way for a new engine, ecu and a few other bits and pieces.
After a few setbacks getting the motor working, mainly problems setting up the haltech, i managed to get out to a couple of track days, and after having a great time i managed to spin a bearing halfway round turn 2 at mallala
After a bit of thinking i decided to turn the car into a more motorsport focussed car, and due to the current levels of policing in SA it seemed a better idea to keep it to the track seeing as you can't seem to drive a modified car on the road any more without getting defected.
floor painted
cage fresh from powdercoat
part way through cage installation
finished!
More of motor
The car went to buddy parts to get a full cage fitted, and the motor was rebuilt with a baffled sump and some cams, and now makes 95kw at the wheels. I stripped a whole lot of stuff out of the car because it had full trim up until this point.
ready for the sprint
I did a circuit sprint in it the other weekend and managed to get down to a 1:22.9 which is a massive difference from the 1:33's it started out doing.
Here's a rundown of the car in it's current spec

All that really remains to do to it at this stage is to change the diff ratio - either a 4.77 or 4.9, sort out the brakes as they are really letting the car down at the moment (can't get them to bleed up firmly) and then possibly do something drastic power wise, and it's either going to be a big power 4age or a BEAMS, but that isn't officially decided yet
But for now i intend to thrash the crap out of it
Your back!
awesome work man!!!
RIP Carly - a smile to light the world.

Nice car, not quite an IPRA spec car, but nice nonetheless.
P.s. in an IPRA round you cant use #86

fucking sweet bro, love it!
