    Default Stock valve springs Q's

Already done some searching, and haven't found any solid info yet.

So what is the max "safe" lift on a 16v with stock valve springs?

Also is it possible to change springs without pulling the head off?

The valve-springs themselves aren't really the limiting factor, it's the shim-over-bucket setup that throws shims out and makes a mess of things over a certain amount of lift.

The general rule of thumb (although some crazy kids push it), is not to exceed 9mm lift with standard valvetrain.

Oh, and to add to that, YES it's possible to remove springs without removing the head, you need one of the funky bluepoint/snapon tools, as seen in the link below

    Good man!!!

I know about the limits of the shim setup, And i'm converting to 1sz solid items. Just wanted to know if I could skimp on springs for now.
