    Default Radiator/Intercooler mounting and Shroud

    Hey guys

just wanting to know whats the go with the best way to mount my radiator/intercooler combo in my engine bay. I am under the impression building a shroud will improve the flow and reduce heat transfer from rad to IC.

    what i had planned....

15-20mm gap between the rad and cooler with a shroud either side and on top. so the air doesnt get stuck there, the air goes through the IC and then is pulled through the radiator by the thermo fans. this means the heat is moving away from the cooler and towards the motor.

correct me if im wrong. works in my head so its probably fucked lol

yeh what you said sounds good. you can also make air dams from the front of the car to the IC for that extra special airflow.

FYI the first time my mate fit his IC, the rad was maybe 10-15mm from the cooler and it got heat soat (this was with a 16" thermo fan). with that space i'd maybe make it more lik 40mm+ if you could.

Yea, heat soak is no-good. The further apart the better, and you have wicked space in that bay! Engine mounted nicely over the front axle.

hehe like the use of swaybar D clamps to mount the intercooler...

i think mounting the IC so close the the hot radiator is no good... to much heat soak..
Your on the right track but i feel the best thing to do is:

Mount the IC in undisrupted air flow, maybe infront of the rad support

Make an enclosed shroud around the back side of the radiator that is sealed and mount the fans in the shroud, it creates a greater vacume effect and makes the fans more efficient drawing air through the entire core instead of the surface area where the fan is mounted.

i think with your idea of mounting the cores close and making a way for the air to flow straight from the IC into the RAd... your really channeling "warmed" air and turbulent air from the IC into the rad core.

    v mount would be sweet.

but cant afford it. i have other places id rather spend money, as it is now there is 60ish mm between rad and IC, should be sweet
