Hell yeah, nothing can beat the sound of this!
This is my 2006 BF XR8 and the reason my KE70 project has taken 1.5yrs. I bought it with 23,000km's on it about 9 months old and have had nothing but problems. From faulty electrical to snapped wheel studs to full respray to rebuilding the motor.
Even with all the problems I've had and the ridiculous amount of money I have spent on it I still love it. People say these don't handle very well which is true but when you learn how to drive it properly its very good for a ute and much better than old utes. The main problem is changing direction suddenly at high speed causes the tail to slide very easily.
I spun a bearing in the bottom end and had to rebuild it although Ford said the warranty is void due to CAI being fitted. So bought whole new bottom end just the crank alone cost me $1450 plus all the bolt on mods tuned twice so far making 231rwkw and 500nm of torque should end up with a final figure around 240-50rwkw.
Yes V8's are heavy, don't handle well, guzzle petrol and aren't that quick anymore but you cannot beat the sound with the thing wide open throttle pullin 6700rpm out of a big V8 nothing sounds better. Plus knowing I built the motor makes it even better.
I learnt that drifting V8 utes is expensive
Hell yeah, nothing can beat the sound of this!
if you want it to handle better let me know petey, you know i've got the hook up
Cheers Kurt you should come for a drive sometime its like having two 4AGE's under the hood. It is a 5.4L quad cam 32 valve V8 after all so a little bigger than two 4AGE's.
LOL thanks for the offer Chris but 10k on the motor is enough for me all my money is going into the KE as the utes going to be a tow car.
Just a short vid of me on great ocean road. I didn't speed in this video its 80 along here and I wasn't going to risk it. Just a vid so you can hear the induction suck and the exhaust. I was only revving to 3000rpm.
thats no good with the motor in a 4 year old car! the only time i drive my car i have it banging off the limiter and its on the original motor 18years later and still going strong.
Tell me about it man I really looked after it to and did not drive it that hard at all. I did push it hard sometimes but barely ever hit the limiter and I never flogged the crap out of it. I've had cars that I have run the same oil for 30,000km's and flogged the living daylights out of them and had no issues.
I've heard a lot more stories about these new Ford V8's but unfortunately at the time when I bought mine none of the problems had arose yet till now. From speaking to other guys Ford 9 times out of 10 try to get out of the warranty work. The problem with the Boss 260 was the compression is too low like when the piston reaches TDC there is still 70thou of cylinder bore before the combustion chamber even starts. That's why all the FG XR8's run the higher comp boss 290.
So when I rebuilt It I had the block machined to get the comp up to the same spec as 290, bored, honed, bathed and new welch plugs, new crankshaft, bigger titanium pistons, acl race bearings, stronger rods, melling billet high flow oil pump, new valve stem seals, iridium plugs, 25% underdrive pulleys, throttle body spacer, blue power airbox with massive K&N pod its 10" long and 5" intake pipe, Billet products rip shifter, new stock clutch (Bad Decision), Difillipo 4-1 tuned length S/S headers 1 3/4" primaries into 3" with 3" S/S 200cpsi difillipo cats.
All up it cost me around $10k never added up the receipts and don't want to either. Just the gasket kit was $1200 lol.
Stock clutch was a bad choice though as the thing is making that much power now if you rev out 1st, 2nd then 3rd once you back off there's no clutch and while your flooring it especially 3rd you can just watch the clutch pedal fall towards the floor. Then you have to wait for the motor to spin down a bit and pump the clutch to get it to come back. You can just hit 4th sometimes but 3rd does 160 so that's enough.
Whats happening is the motor is spinning up way faster now than it use to and the inertia on the stock pressure plate causes it to lose pressure on the clutch. Its probably why I'm losing so much power to the wheels as the motor made 307kw and is only making 231kw at the wheels. Going to go with a Malwood option 3 clutch but at $1200 I'll wait till the stock one goes.
awesome car. i like this.
would be nice and comfortable, it has a v8, it manual, what more can you need.
lol at white people in japan. just lol.
Back Seats! Something I can throw around without worrying about smashing it or a Toyota with a 4AGE! The engines are unbelievable for their age.
The ute is great to drive has lots of power but after my last 2 cars before this ute being utes I really really want back seats. There's so many times when I'm driving going man I wish more people could be in the car to experience this road or skid or whatever it is I'm doing.
It is very comfortable I must say though driven to Newcastle 1200km's many times and it just cruises in 6th. One time I even went with my jetski in the back an L20B and gearbox and still had more than enough power to overtake quickly. L20B's are bloody heavy too lol even beat an R32 GTS-T with it all in the back he didn't try running me again at the next lights.
It makes a great daily and more than adequate tow car and the 4AGTE KE70 will be for fun. Plus I'd much rather drive home tired late at night in my comfy new XR8 cruising in 6th. Than belting along in the KE with only 1 muffler Going BOOOORRRRRRRR
