it'll have direct injection
In non-turbocharged models, a new engine (designated FB25) sits under the hood. It has the first completely new design from Subaru in 20 years.
Subaru had a number of goals for FB25, including improved fuel economy and higher performance, especially at low engine speeds (low-end torque). Major differences between the FB25 and the EJ25 (which remains the engine of choice for turbocharged Forester models) include:
Smaller bore and longer stroke
Slightly higher displacement
Chain-driven double-overhead camshafts instead of belt-driven single-overhead camshafts
Compared with the previous non-turbocharged EJ25 engine, the FB25 produces:
Same horsepower, but at lower rpm
Slightly higher torque at lower rpm
Improved fuel economy
Does that mean that the"F" on FT 86 stands for FB25?
it'll have direct injection
I was wrong, it looks to be a 4 banger version of the EZ30, which isnt a bad thing.
Just hope they keep some sort of EJ variant in the years to come, otherwise no easy mods for anyone for long time.
Why the switch to a timing chain instead of belt? What's the advantage there?
they don't need to be replaced and make a cool rattling noise. i'd imagine subaru owners would be quite happy to never have to replace a timing belt on those stupid VW motors.
great, so not only is it a epic cross bread on a old chassis, it now has a lovely truck motor! it just keeps getting better and better!
EZ30 timing chained boxer engines are one of the smoothest and reliable engines.
and sound absolutley porn
heres one i prepared earlier
I put this together while I was at Pulse Racing, would have to be one of my all time favourite subaru's that I have worked on, beautiful seamless power, from idle to redline. Ended up with near on 300kw on 12psi with standard internals.
Sounds like a 911...
