that doesn't sound right at all. It's not like a 20V , because as far as I understand the cam pulleys are fully variable. So even with the wildest race cams you could tune them more, for example retard the exhaust cam at lower revs to stop the mixture blowing out the exhaust resulting in a higher dynamic compression ratio. So it should be impossible to have cams that are not VVT compatiable, well unless they go very close to the pistons as it is.
