leave it black, its just from the pcv and no-one will ever see in there when it's together, you'll probably cause more problems than you'll solve by trying to get rid of it, unless you want to pull it apart and have it cleaned in a rotissery parts cleaner.

I wouldn't even worry about the cleaner either. Once you clean it off it will just come back anyways. If you're worried about the small bits just stick a vacuum on the ports to suck it out. Really leaving it dirty I think will make no difference to the power it produces if you haven't touched the bottom end.
Have you pulled the sump man? If not do it it will take max 1hr to take it off and the pickup tube give it a thorough clean and refit that way your nice clean new oil stays nice and clean.
If you do it when you pop the sump off the block theres two plates. Undo all the sump bolts then pull off the sump then you can undo the three bolts on the pickup tube and remove it then you can remove the baffle plate covering the crankshaft.
Yeah, clean out the pick up then once it's running use about 3-400mls of diesel in with your first load of oil, run for 10-15 mins at idle or whatever and then drop the oil and refill again. Cheap "engine cleaner".

ok, yea i wasn't really worried about anyone seeing it, was more thinking about all the muck getting into the engine :/ also what is pvc? yea don't really want to pull the engine apart.
ok cleaning it is useless. ah k i thought if it got crud in the engine, the petrol wouldn't burn as well because if all of the dirt. not yet but i will be doing that, ok ill make sure i do that cheers

subaru upper engine cleaner works a fucking treat do it when your engine i shot though works heaps better, and too keep it clean/er, dont run your oil breather from you rocker cover into your mani run it too a catch can/bottle/ground
okk, will definitely have get some then, can you only get it from subaru and can anyone get it or just subaru mechanics?
why shouldnt you run breather to mani?its how factory intended it to be isnt?
