To be honest, if you are running enough power to warrant any greater strength than an F series, you have the wrong motor in your corolla.

Good to have an info thread for those with cressida's etc though.

I could prob get away with an F series but want to have a rig that shouldn't fail, I'm using a V8 so unlike a lot of engines it will have torque and I may want to take it to the drags every now and then so when running slicks and having torques I want the stronger option.

Granted yes there will be a minute amount of people who will need a G series diff but i chucked the info up there anyway.

Yes, the g series is over engineered for a corolla, and quite heavy. However, you cant beat the availability of LSDs, ratios, brake options, wheel options and peace of mind. I have G series in 2 AE86s, and I know I will never have to worry.

What are your G series out of and what brakes/lsd/ratios are you using?

G series out of an RN27 hilux rear wheel drive, with an G series LSD. The diif I got had something like a 5.3 ratio, but I am using a 4.7 ratio at the moment. Use the rear discs out of an MA70 supra. There is quite a bit of info on this conversion available. You can simply oxy cut all the brakets etc off a a standard diff then re-weld, or have brackets laser cut if doing a few. I converted to coil overs on the rear so I didn't use the spring seats. If you do this you will need to reinforce the floor and mount the coil over unit to the diff in double shear. Using standard mounts on the floor and single shear mounts on the diff is probably ok, but dont know for how long. I will try to dig up some pics. I know i still have the welding jig for the diff.

Just remember the G series is very heavy, and will probably upset the balance of the car unless you use a corresponding large engine/gearbox in the front. from memory, the g series diff added about 40kg to the weight of the car.

ok well in my case of taking out a 4age and t50 and replacing with a 3uz and r145 i figure the balance will almost be back to the norm...but I've also got a 60lt fuel cell in the back too though...

Any links i can chuck in the first post to a brake conversion page?
