my old man could do it for ya been a mechanic for 35 years no's his shit aswell
Hi Guys,
As the title states.
Looling for a shop to do a basic rebuild on a 4AGZE, nothing serious but would like a quality job done. Also would prefer someone who knows 4A / toyota stuff.
I did a bit of a search and found this thread
listed places are:
CW Engine Services
Ringwood
Speed Works
Ringwood
Orger Engines
Baywater
Footscray Cylinder heads
Barkleys St
Pearl Engineering
Kilsyth
Any advances on these places? Or any advice on which are good? (actual experiences would be great thanks)
Cheers,
Rob

IDB automotive in richmond got my new bottom end through him was quite happy with his work and knows his 4age/7age
Flowcraft: dont know if he's done many 4a's but he is pedantic about his engines and i think reasonably priced as well address should be 18-20 Westwood Dr Deer Park ill be getting my engine and head machined and all the clearances done buy him when the time comes he has done an rb30 for me before and it is strong as all hell

Do you know roughly how much he charges to balance/build a bottom end?

Aussies are more worried about modifying their cars to a level way above their skill level.. Not having a skill level way above their cars capability
You need an actual machinist if you want it balanced, they'll assemble it too if you ask/pay. If you take it to a mech they'll send it to a machinist and ad 20% when it gets back, then the mech will bolt it together.
Saliba in Clayton (I think the suburb is Clayton) are very good and charge within reason. From memory, around $150 bore and hone, about $300 to balance crank, flywheel, clutch, $450 to assemble bottom end, About $350 for a full head cleanup and guides.
Work was done over 12 months ago so not sure if there have been any increases.
when you say full head clean up it must no involve alot or thats damn cheap

With the head they skim the gasket surface, check valves seal, hardness test and k-line the guides. It was quite a while ago though and I can't remember if the k-lines were included in the price or not. It's quite comprehensive. Give them a call.
They run a good quality workshop, I've had 5 motors done and never an issue, everything machined right to spec. They do v8 supercar cylinder heads too, usually a few of them on the bench when I've dropped in.
On the other hand, I've had a motor done at crankshaft rebuilders and so has a mate for a customers job and they fucked up both times. Once the crank wouldn't go in because the clearances were wrong for the bearings in a couple of journals and the other one they took the journals out too much. Fuckwits.
