Yeah im using one on mine. Wiring was easy and most places can tune them. Had my first issue just the other week with it.. It decided to clear all the maps and left me stranded. But other than that its good value for money.

MicroTech is fine. Either second hand LT8S or the new LT10s.

If you are realy interested in data logging and having lots of outputs for some reason, you may want to look at something else. MicroTech will not do: knock sensor, closed loop, autoTune, 3D ignition display. I am not sure if it can do idle speed control, not sure.

MicroTech can do: 3D fuel maps, data logging, O2 display, thermo fan, rev limit, boost cut.

Check out the Adaptronic, they're much better than any of the Microtechs and cheaper.

There is a whole lot to be gained in a turbo application via a good tuner. These tuners are few and far between, but if you find one, remember the name.

When I went looking for an aftermarket ecu for my 4AGE, I checked all the above and some more out. In the end, I got the best. I figured that it was better to spend the money now than to buy something else, then have to sell it to buy the best in the end anyway.

Now that it is all set up in the car and I've had it running for a bit, I would thoroughly recommend getting Motec. Its a lot cheaper than you think, and it has all the functions you could want. If its going to be a street - driven car, its the only way to go.

I heard the head designer for MoTeC left and started Autronic, but Motec still has better marketing so is considered as "the best". Thats all I know.

But for a young guy who just wants to get something running and will change the setup within a year anyway, I don't think its cost effective to spend more than $2000 on a ECU and as much again getting someone to tune it with closed loop, perfect cold start etc. Most will be happy with a quick tune on the dyno, and can live with having to warm the car up if need be, and a high idle. There is no reason why a MicroTech can't run a nice daily driven car. But if the engine is modifyed with cams, idle will be about 1000rpm, not 600rpm. But it can still be turn key and go from cold.

What extra functions of the MoTeC did you end up using?

I would consider a high end ECU if making a prototype vehicle with low emissions or duel fuel. Or a competitive race car where 2% more power and less fuel per lap ment something. But then you need to know how to work it...

I use a MoTec on my car but being a dedicated track car you use what is available both for reliability or access of people with knowledge if you have a problem. I have heard alot of people talk quite highly of the microtech and they should do the job fine, many people also use the EMS which arent a bad unit, alot of off roaders use these as they are pretty reliable. I suppose the best ECU is like anything, fits the budget, has the functions needed to run the type of engine you have.
