    Guys

My T50 jdm gearbox is acting like a little bitch atm. Trouble getting into gears especially first thing in the morning, the clutch peddle is also a little soft in the mornings - so i am not sure if that is related. Seems likel something is going to give soon. The other issue in the mornings has been i put it into reverse and disengage clutch and it grates gear. guess the synco is having an issue?

Anyway the main reason for my post is about the T50 box. Am i better to try and get my gearbox rebuilt or buy a second hand gear box?

What is involved in a rebuild, are there just a few parts that would be fixed? Are all parts easily available or would i need to source them and supply to the mechanic? I would need them to fix it the same day.

second hand box - at least i can change it over myself although it can be a bit of a mission.

Any advice is useful. I only have basic knowledge of how a gearbox works and have never worked on one before.

I did search the forum however it is hard to search on t50 as the term is too short. So i hope this hasnt been discussed numerous times.

    thanks

Take your gearbox to a mechanic or gearbox specialist. Have about $600 ready and expect a good as new one when its finnished with a warrantee.

Just take the gearbox to a mechanic, tell them what model its off. He will call you when itd done. Easy.

Don't use full synthetic oil to start with.

Having just had the t50 in the rallycar rebuilt, i think for the average driver a replacement will be the cheaper and quicker option,

Alot of the parts have to come from Japan as there are none left in the country.
It also may not just be syncros, the selector sleves also wear out as do the selectors, and the syncro dogs on the gears, all not cheap to fix.

Mine cost 2K to rebuild properly here are the parts required.

    33214-14010 selector 5 and R
    33213-14010 selector 3 and 4
    33212-14010 selector 1 and 2

    33363-14013 sleve 1
    33364-14010 sleve 2
    33395-26010 sleve 3

    33367-14010 x 3 syncro 1,2 and 5
    33368-12030 x 2 syncro 3 and 4

    TRD 33033-ae851 2nd gear
    TRD 33032-ae851 1st gear
    333034-12040 3rd gear.

You can get away with not replacing the gears by getting the syncro dogs on the gears replaced, by a gearbox professional, Albins did mine.

I tend to agree with the gents above. When I had a box rebuilt a few years ago (don't think parts had to come from Japan then) it was around $700.

Yes it was nice, but not around 3 second hand boxes worth of nice.

Also the clutch issue isn't related. Maybe the clutch needs a bleed/new cylinder somwhere. Needs more investigation though.

    thanks guys for your opiniions.

I actually scratched my car tonight courtesy of the gear box.

    What happened?

Well - car park gate was already half open when i put the swiper on it. Normally i can reverse out and drive through before the gate closes.

Tonight that gate started closing early - i wasnt sure if i would make it through, so i stuck the nose forward thinking it might have a sensor there. It didnt. So I needed to reverse. Couldnt get it in gear. Bang. Finally get it in gear and have small scratches on body and guard. Frigging gear box.
