Thread: Stiffest/cheapest springs/shocks???

I don't know a whole lot about suspension but I'm wanting to make my KE a bit stiffer with less bodyroll. At the moment it's got the usual cut springs and I'm after a bit of an upgrade.
I read that Falcon springs will go in the rears but I'm not sure what to do with the front and can't really afford to go with coilovers.

I'm looking for a pretty stiff ride with very minimal body roll if thats possible to get with limited funds??

Falcon springs should fit in the front too without much worry. Im unsure of the diametere of the coils but they sit in ae86 struts, just not sure if ke ones are smaller seats.

Alternatevely, dave from ajps on these forums can supply you with some springs as soft or as hard as you want

Yeh I'm looking on the AJPS site right now, thinking of getting some front springs off him but I'm not sure what rates.. 6kg or 8kg??? Will falcon springs be pretty stiff in the rear?

falcons are about 4-4.5kg.... so they would match around 6kg fairly well

And that would be fairly stiff all round? Or still pretty soft? And I'm guessing the falcons wil need to be cut down to give a decent ride height?

I would but I'm not sure what parts are going to suit me best.. I'm probably just gonna go with the falcons in the rear. But not sure what rating springs for the front. I plan on taking the car to the track a fair bit, but it is also going to be a daily driver.
I'm used to driving around on stiff coilovers so I don't really mind the bumps as long as it's not crazily stiff.

Would you recommend 6kg or 8kg front springs? Or a custom in between?

If you are planning on any sort of track work it would be worth your money to also buy new shocks dude.

To get any decent shocks, and for a decent brake upgrade, find some complete sprinter front struts, as these allow a larger range of performance shocks, springs, brake pads and rotors, a bonus is slightly bigger brakes when compared to KE brakes.

As a very basic setup i would go falcons all round, not too low, as this just causes bumpsteer and wont work with the stock shocks. Aim for no more than 2 inches lower than stock. Id go some new rear short stroke shocks too, because they are quite cheap. KYB's are great value, tis what i run.

Next, id get the sprinter struts, 8 and 6kg springs, some short stroke front shocks and some RCA's (Roll centre adjusters) to eliminate bumpsteer. A panhard rod to realign the diff after lowering is pretty much a necessity at this stage.

Of course, before any suspension work id get new rack ends, tie rods and ball joints, as the standard worn out items will become very noticable with stiff suspension causing the steering to feel sloppy. While your at it find some Corona control arms with new ball joints for a bit of camber.

This is what i have run/running and rate it very highly. AJPS (truenosedan) can help you out with parts n shit.

Thanks for that, thaty is probably the sort of setup I'm after. But with the front struts, I do have 180sx half-cut complete with SR20 struts/brakes etc. How much modification is needed to fit this on? I was thinking of just doing that for the front and buying a set of stiff springs to suit?

^^have a look in technical articles, theres a massive thread about putting S13 front end into ke70/ae86

you need S13 coil overs though, the stock suspension doesn't fit in the strut tower.

its very easy to do, but you might want to get some CA18 discs and calipers, SR ones are a little big for stock mastercylinder.
