this is a good topic... i have been wondering about gettin a set of 25mm for the rears.. any brands or manufactures that u guys can reccommend?
don't spacers just widden the cars track therefore giving you a lower centre of gravity = better handeling.
i don't think the rewards would be that great but every little bit counts i guess

Insert witty comment here....
My current setup is probably a little bit dodgy, but it has withstood the test of time so far.
The front of my car has a set of 8mm slip on spacers. With the spacers on, the wheels don't touch the hub that its meant to run on. It also means that the wheel nuts only get 4 turns on before they come up tight.
I've been running this setup for 3 years. I've bashed ripple strips at plenty of racetracks having done 30+ track events. I've even hit ripple strips and track edges sideways, and the wheels have stayed on.
That said, I am on the hunt for longer wheel studs, and my car is a whole lot lighter than a sprinter (its a clubman), but it does generate way more lateral grip through the turns.
I also don't hit potloles. Mostly this is because if I did, I would get ejected out of the car, but also because I am concerned that the shock load that you get from a pothole may be catastrophic. It may not immediately send a wheel flying, but it might cause a crack that initially goes unnoticed.
On another note, we run 8mm slip on spacers on a WRX rally car, and have done so for years. That has never had an issue, and I'm positive that has seen hits big enough to tear suspension off most normal cars!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (AE86er @ Jun 19 2008, 08:12 AM) </div>the width of the car no way changes the center of gravity, what it does do though is change your roll centre, and your scrub radius. both of which will change the handling characteristics. not necessarily better though.
I'm pretty sure the benefits available from using spacers is A. clear big calipers with small wheels or B. make crappy offset wheels look good :2thumbs:
""""of course slip on ones or AJPS bolt ons are, but decent quality ones are perfectly fine.""""
does anyone have a picture of a set of spaces that are these said "perfectly fine" ones? as opposed to the ones that ajps sells.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (SpotterOne @ Jun 19 2008, 09:06 AM) </div>4 turns of thread! the 35bucks for 8 longer studs well offsets the cost of losing a wheel and or your life! Will give good piece of mind too.
Regarding the AJPS ones, they aren't actually 'ajps' as such, they are made by Performance Wheels Australia, Dave is only a retailer for their product. When he first got the spacers, some were sold before we had a chance to test them, i.e, didn't realise the nuts were soft threaded until after a few wheel changes. He's been through hell to get stronger studs to those who bought them and they are now here finally!
So don't blame dave, its performance wheels that did the cost cutting and dodgy design work! Spacers are a pretty safe bet, provided you regularly check the tension of your wheel nuts in the case of slip on spacers, especially a few drives after you swap wheels. With bolt on spacers, just nip the spacer nuts to make sure they are tight everytime you change wheels/get new tires put on and you should be sweet.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Meathead #2 @ Jun 19 2008, 09:29 AM) </div>Like I said, its probably a bit dodgy, and I'm on the hunt for longer wheel studs, but I have been racing with it set up like this for 30+ track days!
Actually, I'm going to make a call right now to get some. No more knocking on wood....
*edit - I found some longer ones at Nice Products in Marrickville for $6 each. I'm still going to run the dodgy spacers though!
i havent sold those spacers for a long time
they came from performance wheels not AJPS, i am a retailer, their wheels are of awesome quality, however due to a mistake by them the wrong material grade was chose for the studs, i had little say or choice in replacement studs
i did a recall and have been through HELL AND BACK to get replacements with so many broken promises
all parts with the AJPS name on them are of the highest quality and if you have something that has been made in Adelaide by me or for me you will see this
spacers will be re released, a bit differently soon and you can post results then
cheers
