step 15: is actually called an upper hat
good job, now add it to the FAQ
hey guys, thought id put up a pictorial guide to the t3 weld on kit, there was a heated discussion about these in the kyouteki sub forum, in the t3 parts section, it was whether this kit was any good, as it is alloy, and is held on by a steel perch which is welded to the strut, these are said to be loose on the strut, however this is not the case, enjoy.
items needed:
AE86 struts
T3 weld on ground contol kit
KYB AGX SW20 shock
T3 strut tube spacer
T3 camber tops
angle grinder, wire wheel, mig welder
can of primer, can of whatever colour you want
1. pull ya struts out of ya hachi (mine was fitted with king springs and kyb excel g shocks)
2. disassemble your struts of everything
3. now get an angle grinder, cut the spring seats off and grind back the weld, strip the paint of the strut as it will be welded further down the track
4. this is the difference in length from a standard oem replacemt kyb excel g, to a sw20 kyb agx shock
5. measure the length of the adjusting sleeve, measure the available space on the strut from the top, mark where you want to the sleeve to sit, ive put it smack bang in the middle, as the spring seat will sit in the middle and i will have equal movement up and down the strut.
6. pull the steel perch out abit from the adjusting sleeve
7. put it in place
8. tack weld it in place, then remove the adjusting sleeve from the steel perch
9. finish welding the perch, then when its cooled down, put the sleeve back on, i had to hit the sleeve with a rubber mallet and a block of wood to push it back down, its tight on there and wont come off
10. mask it up, prime it
11. paint it your colour of choice (australian export gloss red)
12. pull off all the masking
13. fit the shock along with the t3 strut tube spacer, and the spring seat
14. fit the spring
15. fit the upper hat
16. fit the camber top
17. grab a beer and stare at it
now repeat the process for the other strut
cheers, drftr86

ill transfer it over in alittle bit
do you fear the number 13
and copied
does that mean the lower you put your adjusting sleeve the lower the car will sit?
of course, but then the less available stroke your shock will have.
what do you mean by stroke? as in up and down movement which means it will be alot more stiffer aswell?
Suspension will travel the same, just how much available stroke left in the shock is left will be reduced........
Personally I would have shortened the strut an inch if using shorter shocks, that way no need for spacers for the shock inserts and shorter strut all together...
