What would be clunking when u shake on the wheel back and forth? I figure I'll have to replace something so why not replace and upgrade at the same time.

Just wondering what the best way to lighten up the steering and make it quicker lock to lock?

I don't know much about this, had a search and is PS arms the best way to go? what does that involve ?? is there any bolt in replacement steering racks you can swap over for a KE70

    my car has

    • AJPS 8kg front adjustable coil overs
    • AJPS 6.5kg spring
    • KYB shocker in front
    • Adjustable KYB Short Strokes in Rear
    • AR40 Celica LCA
    • AR40 steering arms

    Cheers

assuming its a rack & pinion and not a steering box, get the rack rebuilt

also, the knuckle that connects the column to the pinion shaft just after the rack gets flogged out and gets a bit of slop. Nothing you can do about that unless you find a new one ($$$/hard) or somehow get it rebuilt.

as for quicker steering, spend $400-500 and get a quaife rack, best money you'll spend and the only real way to do it

the knock will almost definitely be the rack ends. these are consumable parts, and cheap. replace the tie rod ends at this stage too. cheap, and you will need a wheel alignment after changing each, so best to do them together.

the knuckle doesnt usually "flog out" it gets a bit notchy, but you wont feel this as a clunk.

if you want quicker steering, you can either change to power steering knuckle arms, or to a quaife quick rack, or both.

both increase the steering effort though. and both together, the steering is very heavy.

power steering arms are simpler and cheaper, easier to install, and also increase lock. so get them. its just a slightly shorter steering knuckle, the bit that bolts to the bottom of the strut, ball joint, and tie rod.

also... why are you running ra40 steering arms?

the quaife rack isnt a complete rack. just the internals, it requires removal of the rack and assembly. the distributor for quaife is in new zealand, theyre called palmside. closer to the $400 mark direct from them.

NOTE, they way youve worded it, as in quicker lock to lock, with the power steering arms that ive suggested, it will still be the same revolutions lock to lock, but for each degree you turn the steering wheel, the wheels will turn more, so its the same effect.

Not sure why it's running ar40 arms, they were in it when I bought it..

Who sells power steering arms? AJPS?

So I need new power steering arms and tie rod ends? Will I need new ball joints?

    Thanks for the help
