    So.
After fucking round for what seems like forever the 4age has finally started!!!!
Tried a whole bunch of different things, but found it to be a lack of cranking speed/ power and average spark. Found some standard bkr6e11 plugs lying round in the shed so cleaned them up and chucked them in as my iridium plugs were old as. Also put a ns70 battery in the boot as it was the biggest that would fit in the battery box.
After cranking for a few seconds it started coughing then started.
Celebrations were in order so I walked around arms in the air!!
Then once warmed up gave it a small rev and knock knock mr noisy big end arrived!
    So gayness
Next move is to pull the sump off and try do the big ends without having to remove the head or pull out of the engine bay.

Pulled the sump off and pulled off number four conrod Bearing cap as it had the most movement pulled out the big end bearing and it is well buggered with one big groove and wear through the copper layer. So time for a crank grind and new bearings. The bearings are ACL brand and are dated march 2005 so they are not to old. But are still standard size, this would suggest to me that the last time they were done it was done on the cheap without a crank grind.
Would any one suggest getting the main journals done at the same time? I know it will depend on wear but is it very common for the mains to wear as bad as the big ends?
All the bearings will be replaced including the thrust washers

Ok a big update will happen in the next week, when it is running again. Pulled the crank out and took it to my local engine reconditioners. He said there was excessive wear or number four big end and turns out after taking the block down there the conrod was damaged too. Lucky we had a few spare 20v rods.
So what this has meant Is a full rebuild. My crank and head are at the reconditioners getting 10thou off the main journals and 20thou off the big ends. My head has been acid dipped and is being planed.
Me and a mate honed the bores the other night and cleaned the block. Removed all the old head gasket off it too and polished it back smooth with a nilon brush on a drill.
Hoping to get the crank and head back tomorrow and start the build. Going to order a new key aswel as my old crank pulley was well fucked and I guess it is a good idea to replace these things while it is easy.
A list of new parts to install are: big end, mains & thrust bearings, piston rings, head gasket, stem seals, crank and rear main seals, head bolts, gear box output seal, keyway.
Has ended up costing me alot more than just slapping in a cheap "fresher" motor in over a weekend, but I know I will be happy with the result, should have a little bit more power than the old tired smoky motor and will be lots of fun over summer.
I'm trying to get as much track time as I can this summer with a drift school on December 8th
(second drift day I have entered so will be still shit as driver so don't expect much!!) and a track day a mate of mine has organized in febuary with time attack and circuit racing. Should be fun
I promise some pictures too in my next few posts!

Also this is ment to be my daily driver / project, the only problem with it being my only car is having to ride my push bike to work every day! Still repping the "AE" every day but it is an A-vanti E-scape lol!

Rebuild is complete and the 4age is back where it belongs, soooooo happy to be driving it!! Put 40kms on it tonight went for a casual drive around the back of the airport.
Happy to have it running again so I don't have to bike to work. A southerly front has just rolled through today so it is pissing down, lucky I can drive now!!

Will do a proper update post in the next week when I can find the time, I took lots of engine build pics

Hey all. I've done 630kms on the new motor and is fairly well run in now has been
Running fine with much more tourqe than the old one.

    My problem is......

After work today I took a workmate for a quick blat around the block. It went really well until half way through the run and I went through 1st 2nd and 3rd to around 7000rpm and then buttoned off in 4th but it was like the throttles stayed open I pulled over and with the clutch in it would rev at 5500rpm on idle. I was like wtf and shut it off. I checked and the throttle cable has slack even when revving on idle. Wtf!! I undid the battery and reset the ecu and it stayed the same when on idle. Unplugged the airflow meter And it idles at 3500??

Anyone have any idea of what it could be??

    Please please please

Check for vacuum leaks around the throttle body, maybe you blew one off or poped a air hose while doing 7000 gear changes.

The breather hose from the cam cover into my throttle body once disappeared after a hard lap on a skid pan, acted the same way you have described, block off both hose outlit fixed the problem for temp use. Hope this helps

    Sloved!!!!!

The throttle cable was fine and so were the first two throttle bodies. But I didn't check the back two. Turns out a vacuum line had got stuck between the back linkage and it's stopper and was holding the number 3&4 throttles open.

Many thanks go to my mate alex who has helped so much with the engine build and can find things that I am to blind to see.

interesting way of removing the spigot bearing, found a youtube video, said to stuff wet paper in the spiogot hole then use a 8mm socket on a extention to push it in, it builds up pressure, continue till it slowley pushes the bearing out!! messed the bearing up pretty good!
