Hi fags. I have been contracted to do all the suspension work on this panno. Here's tonights efforts.
Let me preface this by saying that I found A LOT of super dodgy shit going on. After speaking to Declan and hearing the story of how this suspension setup came to be where it is today and the circumstances under which the components were fitted, instead of flaming whoever used to own the car, take this is a 'what NOT to do' guide.
Let's get to work than, shall we?
Here's the first thing I noticed. Swaybar not hooked up to the control arms on either side.
No castellated nut used on the tie rod end - a big no-no. Castellated nut with split pin, unless a nyloc nut is provided with the kit. That said this does have a locking type washer on it.
And, uh, those brake lines should be secured... somewhere....
And that tie rod end should not be a banana.
AND THOSE STRUT BOLTS SHOULD NOT BE FINGER TIGHT HOLY FUCK DECLAN HOW DID THESE NOT FALL OUT RESULTING IN FIERY DEATH?
Oh, don't mind that. Brake line wasn't done up tight enough and was losing fluid. No biggie. SERIOUSLY?
That is by far the SADDEST xE7x rack i've ever seen.
This is the task at hand.
Time to rummage through the extensive AJPS bolts bucket. Due to having a few screws loose, the panno was missing a few bits and bobs.
Like all of these.
I believe this is where i'm meant to say 'because race car'.
That rack looks a lot nicer now.
ALSO - NEW RACK MOUNT BUSH FITTING TRICK ULTIMATE WIN TIME.
Doing these generally makes me want to kill myself, but after doing well over a dozen of them I have the technique down. All as follows:
On the pinion side of the rack with the 'd' shaped bush, apply bush grease (not included) -
-along the side 'lips' where the 'd' bush mounts along the rack
-along the top of the retaining 'shoe' / clamp
-on the bump in the crossmember that locates in the front of the 'd' bush
fitting bushes -
-really work the D bush in, make sure the ends meet at the seam
-fit both bushes before fitting retaining clamps
-fit passenger side retaining clamp LOOSELY - bolts only in a few turns
-put drivers side retaining clamp in place - insert the 'tongue' at the end of the retainer into the 'groove' in the crossmember
-while compressing the back of the retainer with some large multigrips, use a prybar to push the rack forward to push the rack into the locating notch on the crossmember and align the front bolt hole. While doing this insert the front retaining bolt. You may need a friend, or you may have to get inventive.
-use prybar to push retainer down into bush, levering off the gearbox to engine brace - fit rear bolt while doing this
Using this method will dramatically reduce the amount of cursing involved.
Only things left to do are - FIND SOME HUBS, fit and bleed brakes, eyecrometer wheel align and fit the rear shocks.
That's all for tonight.
You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?
Fuck there was some dodgey shit goin on there!
Just goes to show ya, when ya buy a new car ya really need to go over the full car, ya don't know what dickhead has been near it in the past
^ i think i might make this my sig.
i have no idea how the whole front end hasn't fallen apart and killed me yet but i'm going to go ahead and assume that there is a divine being of the car gods looking down upon me and smiling at my windowless awesome-ness.
ps - front end is looking shiney and nice now, thank you josh!
My car was exactly the same as far as loose and non existent nuts and bolts go. I would go and check over the entire car now, who knows what else is wrong. I don't know how people can be so lazy/ignorant when it comes to something so simple and important.
Well given the circumstances, most of the shit that's going to be going wrong is in the front sus -apparently some very tired and temporary suspension was put in there just as a means of getting the car rolling and the person it was going to be onsold to would resolve that. Then it quickly got onsold again, and possibly again. Hrm.

Every time I buy a new car I jack it up and have a look before driving it.
Can't trust anyone really.
Looking good so far
Holy loose nuts! Glad you to took it into AJPS declan! haha
Thanks,
Andrew.
Damn! That front end was fucked!
New bits looks great! Please keep the Hoshinos and run them
