Im not 100% sure, but calling the engineer who wrote the report would be the best bet.

I THINK that the engineers report stays with the car, so it doesnt really matter whos name is on it. As long as its a legit report, i.e. has all vehicle details, engineer details, which ADRs the car was checked to etc...

    dont take my word

but as long as the certificate is for the same car...chassis number and any other form of identification, it should not matter who's "person" name is on the papper

BUT again, NSW Engineering laws changed late 2011, and all engineers had to apply for a new license due to this, what i was told at the time anyways

you are better off to ring the RTA and ask to speak to the "technical inquires" team as they deal with these sort of question...and then they will most likely tell you to go to the RTA website and view one of their PDF. files that shows the rules and regulation for these kind of stuff etc etc..

RTA is still hopeless, the person speaking over the phone is just as clueless as you are *the person i was talking to anyways*, the difference is they only know WHERE and HOW to obtain enough answer to get you off the phone, and im speaking from personal experience...but its a good start to get some answers and direction

    also to add

once you spoken to RTA and got some answers, and if still not answered fully...you might have to speak to an actual engineer person about this as well

i find all this "engineering" side of RTA and the Law enforcers in blue to be a very very gray area..

You either know it or you don't.

i dont want to sound bad but to save you future headaches, get a new certificate with your name on it.. just saying

Engineers reports are valid for the lifetime of the car and isn't specific to the owner.

Take the Mazda RX3, where a 13b turbo was allowed in the car pre 1990 (date is made up) , there are quite a few of them on the road today. If i bought an rx3 with a 12a in it and wanted a 13b I couldn't get it engineered, hence why rolling shells engineered for 13b turbos fetch up to 30k.

Though engineer reports become invalid once you go changing things. ie. if the car had a particular brake setup, if you change that you'll void the entire report.

Depending on how far away you are i might be keen on getting mine done at the same time... Though from what i've found most engineers have more work than they are prepared to do and their attitude shows in it.
