I would say that you would make more of your money back if you part it out, probably not something you would like to do but not many people do
Hey guys,
I started my project AE86 back in 2006. Over the years I've been doing bits and pieces to it, but the last couple it's stayed stagnant. I've got my own house now (including a sweet shed!), but between barely getting by with crappy pay, looking after the house, being away from home for 12+ hrs each day and now having a 1-year old running around, I've come to realize it's just not going to get finished.
I've sunk about 23-25k into it so far, and yes I know I won't get that back. It's a shame that I'll get rid of it before enjoying it, but it was a great learning experience and that's something I won't remember. Learnt so much about general mechanical and car makeup.
The problem is that I've been out of the scene for a while, and have no idea what it's worth. If someone could help give me some ballpark figures, I'd be most grateful. Both as a whole and parted out (yep, I'm willing to take it apart to get better dosh). Here's a rundown:
This car wouldn't be hard to finish, but just requires more money and time than I have access too. Things I think it still needs or requires attention:
So yeah, any idea what it's worth? Or how much I could get for certain main pieces/packages?

Where will it stop? Will it ever be finished? How will it go? Why am I not wearing any pants?

Put some pics up...makes it easier
MOPAR or no car!
Epic pic dump go! Time to put a no 56k warning on the thread...
Edit: Jakel, I know mate, it's going to be crushing if there is a huge difference in parting it out, with it ending up being really the only way to go. Hopefully there's someone who was in the same boots as me back in 2006, and will realize that this is a huge step in the right direction for them. I don't mind losing a bit of money if someone wants to buy the whole thing. I'd really friggen love to see someone finish it! I think seeing that would make me a lot happier about the whole situation.
Forgot to add too, it has a Whiteline panhard rod too. Not something huge, haha, but it has it. I really went to town on this car...

I'm in almost the exact same position! i put my 4agte ae86 up for sale about a week ago, same running gear, hks 2510, respryed, no rust, is complete and ready to go making 180rwkw is up for $10k but unlikley to get it, would be hapy with $8k, would be easyer to sell as parts but for conveinience want it gone as a whole.
Definatly feel your pain. on the flip side, when you are in a position to get another one you know you can buy somthing really good for stuff all!
judging by the pics you have posted 8 - 10 K would be your asking price....
i know its a bit gutting to hear considering you have said a 23 - 25K spend on the build...
in the end of the day its hard to justify that money for what you see...
you have to weigh up is it worth the loss... because you will loose 10K easily if not more...
i dont know.. imo with this spec about i dont think it would be worth parting out...
there arnt many "golden parts" so to speak that guys are going to want to snap up.
ok your engine will go, the F diff, W58, Tail shaft, engine x member.... radiator... but the rest you may have sitting around for a while...
mid you this is just my opinion.. i may be totally wrong... im just trying to give you some insight.
say you get...2 - 2.5k for the engine/ecu, $600 - 800 for the W58, $350-400 for the tail shaft, F diff... $1700 ....$100 for the x member, radiator.. is it genuine koyo?
streeter kit - $500.... coilovers - 800 ish...
its much of a muchness really...
hope it helps to give you some idea of what your up against...
Leave it in said "sweet shed" put a cover over it, forget about and come back to it when you have the time money the patience to finish it. Could only imagine the regret years later down the track.
if u got 10k realistically it gets you nothing these days and.it would go in a sec. Then you'd have nothing to show for the years of hard work and $$$ put in it.
so what it takes another 10-15 years to finish, but it would be worth it because you'll have something to be proud of that you built yourself. And if its your pride and joy your kids will love it too.
MOPAR or no car!
I agree with Mclevin keep the car better then selling to some guy and finding out down the road he crashing it

Wow, long time since I posted this thread originally... but unfortunately this is the direction I really do need to go in. Have prices changed much since 2012?
