My day wasn't quite what I had wanted it to be. Lots of interruption and a missing part. The thrust bearing! An oversight when picking everything up from the machine shop.
Preparation was the order of the day. Final washing the block. Hot soapy water cleaning the the bore of all fines from the hone. Otherwise this can work like a very fine grinding paste in the bore and bearings. Cleaning off all traces of RTV sealant and cleaning out the threads of the sump. Clean clean clean and spray WD40, Inox or the like asap after blowing it dry to stop surface rust.
Prep of the ring gaps. WISECO says 0.0055/inch of bore on the top ring and 0.006 on the 2nd.
The maths
Top ring
83.5mm ÷ 25.4 = 3.2874 inches
3.2874 × 0.0055 = 0.018 ring gap
2nd ring
3.2874 × 0.006 = 0.020 ring gap.
Measuring the gap with feeler gauges in the bore and parallel to the deck is tricky. I use 1 of the old pistons with the top ring still on to push the new ring down in the bore evenly.
I have dumby fitted the crank, waiting on the thrust bearings to arrive. The bearings are ACL Race bearings which don't have a pretty finish. They have been match ground and have a specific journal to fit. The ARP main studs are lightly coated on the thread going into the block with a black moly grease. Assembly lube on the bearings, crank in and cap on. The caps are all labled and have an arrow to the front. Very important not to mix them up. Washer on, moly lube the thread and the underside of the nut. This allows an accurate tension removing binding friction under the nut and in the thread surfaces.
To finish, the crank has tear drop oil ports. Theory is that this 1 increases the area of oil being delivered to the bearings and wipes it in better too.

What other mods made to the oiling system? Did you modify oil pump, oil pan, pick-up, restrict head flow, etc.

Its a gen 3 pump with an up rated pressure spring. Std pickup pan and windage tray.
The crank has removable bungs which makes flushing easier. The oil feed to the factory spec restrictor.
