Looks like a very good start! Like you said loose the stickers and some nice wheels and suspension and it will be a lot of fun!
Hey everyone,
I'm from WA and this is my build thread for the AE71 I just bought a few weeks ago.
Got it off a friend as a swap plus cash for my S13.
Long story short, I hated the 13. I blew up gearboxes and a motor, basically gave up and he always wanted another silly since he sold his 180. Seemed like a good fit as I wanted something cheap and relatively reliable.
When he acquired the AE, it looked like so
He then mucked around with it for a bit and it ended up here..
Looking at it now, there were clearly some changes I wanted to make (stickerbombed bumpers?)
Took it for a drive and loved the noise. Pretty much made up my mind that I wanted it then and there.
We settled on a deal for my silly and all the parts I had for it.
A month later and it now looks like this
Ended up putting the rear bumper back on though and getting some auto blades/venetians for that cool 80s look.
Engine.. (very dirty )
Mate owns a fairly slammed E30 and found a boot lip lying around in his garage so we chucked it on the AE for a test fit.
Bought him some Nandos as a repayment as I like the look of it
Just begging for some decent offset wheels though..
Also, got the cannon removed today and a magnaflow rear muffler installed. Bit quieter, less drone and I like the look compared to the cannon.
Will probably do the rest of the exhaust (extractors, etc.) later on down the track. May also have a slight exhaust leak just after the headers
Mods:
Bigport bluetop 4AGE
T50 gearbox
Cut springs in the front, falcon rears
Stock shocks in the front, something in the rear?
VL fuel pump
Low pressure lift pump
1L surge tank in boot
S/Steel straight through exhaust
Solex locks
Deck and rear speakers
Plans are:
Wheels (14s or 15s x 8 with low offset)
Clean up the paint where my mate got lazy
Decent diff
New suspension (GT monroes and king springs on the way, will go coilover setup later)
Dark interior
Get rid of the cannon - tick
Probably remove most of the stickers and go for a real grandpa spec look - halfway there
Comments or advice (first e7 and don't know much) appreciated

"Not all commodore drivers are wankers, but all wankers drive commodores"
Suspension should (SHOULD) be here by next week so here's hoping Cut springs in the front and blown shocks is absolutely killing me..
Then just sort out some wheels
Awesome dude, good to see this fell in good hands! Was considering buying this. Glad you cleaned her up! Hanging to see the new gear on it!
Cheers mate Yeah, I still give my mate shit for the stickerbombed guards etc.. Can't wait to get the suspension in and clean the whole thing up.
Long time, no update.
Been sitting like this:
Things I've done:
- GT Monroes and SL (cut a coil off the back) king springs all round
- 14x6.5+8 and 14x7+2 Rock Racing wheels
- E30 boot spoiler
- 2inch exhaust with resonator and high flow muffler
- Whiteline rear swaybar
- New water pump, starter, starter relay, alternator, ignition coil, leads and dizzy cap/rotor
Basically, I've just been driving the car as a daily and a few niggly things have been annoying me. So I thought I would go ahead, get a whole bunch of parts and give it a proper freshen up.
Ordered or have waiting to go on:
- Brake hoses front and rear
- Front end steering and bushes
- KE55 control arms
- Distributor rebuild kit and heat shield
- VN Commodore airbox
- Clutch master and slave
- Bigport loom (to replace a bunch of plugs and dodgy wiring)
- T50 shifter rebuild kit
- Adjustable panhard rod
- SSR MK1 14x8
Possibly even swapping all my stuff into a flat front ke (my chassis and body is very average throughout)
Anything I've missed?

That's the plan
Bored at work and thought I should actually make a decent update on here...
Basically, the rolla doesn't get a lot of use at the moment as it drives like an absolute pig.
Rims came back nice and new looking
In the mean time, sold gay suspension and wheels
And now these parts are all either on the car or waiting to be installed:
Corona struts and brakes (camber tops, 40mm from strut tube, agx shocks, 8kg springs, ground control coil kit)
Falcon springs (uncut, now cut and in the car), KYB Excel G rear shocks (commy wagon, 343113) now also in the car + T3 steering arms
Box full of dizzy and water pump seals, front end steering and suspension bushes, clutch slave and master cylinders, etc.
KE55 lower control arms with new bushes and ball joints + AJPS adjustable panhard rod (in the car)
VN commy airbox
Kumho KU31 185/55s for the MK1s (waiting for valves and centre caps before they go on)
Still want/need:
- RCAs
- Decent driver's seat
- Front strut brace
Get some time off work in the next month or so, should have the motor and box out to get stuck into the little things.
Need to fit all the front suspension and refresh the steering and bushes. As well as go over the brakes and clutch, get them sorted.
Chuck the motor back in, go over the terrible wiring slam it on the SSR and drive it till defect. Then swap or sell!

Haven't got any huge updates coz I haven't been driving it much lately. Always waiting for shit or just waiting for motivation haha.
But here goes anyway:
Picked these up, 15x6.5 + 15. More of a 'why not' purchase.
Off an older gentleman's Datto 1200 and came with pretty decent tyres and some cool covers so I'm cheering
Also, finally got the 185/55 KU31s fitted!
Cannot recommend Integrity Tyres in Wangara enough, only place that didn't complain about a little stretch and all fitted and balanced for $50! Heaps better than the 35-40 bucks each I was being quoted elsewhere.
Also popped down to Coventry's Fasteners and picked up 40 stainless bolts, nuts and washers. Way cheaper than bloody Bunnings haha.
Look heaps better with all the holes filled in
Also got around to fitting up the front suspension.
Bashed the ends down and cut the lock stop off the ke55 lcas, bolted up the t3 steering arms and AJPS 40mm RCAs.
Then when I chucked them together with the xt130 struts, I saw a slight problem
So yeah, I'm waiting on some xt130 steering arms at the moment. Should hopefully push the strut out the correct amount and give me the space between the LCA and the back face of the rotor. I'll get them cut and shut to AE86 PS length of course.
