Welcome, always good to see a new build and see another ae86 getting saved.
Pull out the carpet and hit it with some laundry detergent and a pressure washer, it'll come up new.
Hey Guys,
I picked up this 1984 AE86 Sprinter Levin today for $2000 (takumi tax at work), its not drivable at the moment as there was no oil in the diff so i had to get it back to my place on a tow truck.
This banger comes with the 4ac motor, t50 box and a S-series diff (which has been locked by the previous owner)
From talking to the previous owner the car had been in an accident a fair time ago and the rear quarter panels were damaged then. The motor (4ac) runs but the battery was flat, the gear box is good but i am yet to truly find out and the diff has no oil in it and is suspected to be ****ed. The paint was done rattle can matt black a while ago and is peeling and the interior is missing a few bits and pieces but otherwise is ok.
Any how i have always loved these cars and i know 2k is expensive for the condition but were i am located (ACT) these things dont pop up often.
On my driveway after dropped off by tow truck
This is the condition of the panels:
The right side has a fiber glass cover that pop-rivets onto the panel (thats why there are holes) and the left side cover is on, but suspected to be rusted out.
I stripped the interior out to clean (found over $10 in coin under the rear seat!), the carpet is actually not to bad for a 30 year old car
The red circle marks were the seat mounting point is broken
Most of the rear interior panels weren't attatched when i bought it so i have them all over the place, they wont be going on until i fix the rear quarter panels
Sun roof still works which is awesome!
Came with 1 factory seat and one after market SAAS bucket seat both meh condition:
Pic of the 4ac motor, the car came with camber tops too which is nice:
and finally here is the my AE86 in its new home
So this is going to be a long term build as im only a 1st year apprentice and dont make the kind of money to smash this out in a month.. sorry
My plans at the moment are as follows:
-fix the broken driver side seat mounting point
-fix rear quarter panels
-sort out the diff (replace if necessary) -DONE
-major service on everything- DONE
-get it registered asap
-upgrade suspension (probably coilovers)
-4AGE conversion
-LSD diff
-new seats
-re-paint the car
-new wheels (something with offset)
(Thread also on the MCM Forums: )
Thanks for reading and stay tuned for updates!

May be able to help you with a S series diff, Have a few 86's . but would need your dead one as they all need to be movable at short notice .

Good to see this getting restored... plenty in better condition have ended up in the wrong hands and cut up.
I got one a while back where the seat mounting point broke as well, it was in a side on impact.
Sing out if u need a hand with the 4age conversion, plenty of people on here have done it more than once.

To be honest 2k for that isn't too bad these days, the ae86 is becoming more and more rare and most examples that you find these days are molested etc. Do a good job on this and it'll pay off
Cheers guys, currently having talks with Corolla Adz Spares, not sure if you guys have heard of him, but he has a T-series diff (entire rear axle, with tailshaft) out of a celica that he is going to rebuild then freight to me for $450 total ($300 Diff, $150 Freight) which i think is good, seeing as i would cost me near $100 in fuel just to get to sydney were he is located plus the hire of a trailer. Do you guys think thats a reasonable price?
Yeah that's pretty reasonable, I'm guessing drum brakes on it?
What celica ? If a RA40 then you can make it fit ( but rego may be a drama if they spot that pick up points are under excess load ) Any other Celica ones will not fit . T18 REAR ends will bolt strart in for a t series conversion . It is the same as the early JDM AE86 DRUM REAR END set up .

Good stuff man. Corolla Adz Spares is a good bloke have dealt with him before. Thats a good price as well for the car man l paid only 2.5k and mine was rougher then that. Have the same issue with seat mount u did lol just get it welded in again should be no probs
