Had the car for a few months now and after Max's recommendation (JoJo), I thought I'd start a build thread to chronicle my ADM Sprinter as it evolves during my custodianship

The first few threads will be retrospective posts, but I reckon they're important for a full picture as the car has already changed a fair bit from when I got it.

A bit about myself, currently at uni full time and working a couple of jobs (one of them is pizza delivery lol) and I enjoy my cars when I can. I haven't owned many, but am pretty lucky to own the ones I have.

Earlier this year, I was getting around in a pretty trick GT86 (not really), which my old man and I bought when they first came out in 2012.



Used it for a couple of years, did some minor modifications:

2-way amped Focal splits up front with deadening in doors
Tomei UEL catless header with Kakimoto cat-back (sounded mint)
Blitz dash gauges
TOM's tail lights

Didn't really get to a stage where I felt I would benefit from changing the handling set up, as even though I'd squeeze everything I could out of it, I still felt it had a lot more to give. I ended up getting a good deal on some re003's, which in hindsight, should have been my first mod. The low-resistance Yoki's had nothing on them. The new rubber really helped me get the most out of the LSD as well.

In case you were wondering what power it put down, it was 134kw atw...on the same day a mate's e93 ///M3 put down ~250kw. I interpreted this to be a pretty impressive reading and it was without a tune for the UEL headers, which I was saving up for at the time. Was very stoked with 134kw to the earth from a car rated from factory as 147kw at the fly.



It was interesting how the dyno effects how you percieve the car's power after knowing definitively what it is. Honestly, I don't think there is much point in a dyno unless you're tuning, diagnosing or just want to frame a monstrous sheet, but then again, all the cars I've owned have never been about straight up power.

Coming from Melbourne, I quickly realised how living space comes at a premium in inner Sydney, especially garage spce. I live in a pretty derelicted apartment, but that is the tradeoff to have a garage that will make sure my car is protected from the elements.

The garage I had was a pretty tight squeeze, and for the first few weeks I'd clamour out of the boot after parking. However, this got tedious and I got much better at reversing the car in....to the point where I could open the door on the other side....hallelujah


....lol this car had a deceptively wide footprint.

Alas, after a night out I came back to this:



I kind of knew when I was walking back to it because I remember putting the handbrake up and knew that cars can't roll up hills because of physics...

Off it went to get assessed:



The other car was a write-off. I was pretty devastated to say the least, but was thankful that a note had been left behind (although it wouldve been pretty audacious to perform a tow n' run) and that I had insurance on the car. After a lot of back and forth with whether I even wanted the car repaired after taking a hit like this, it got written off. Although I think I could have pushed for a repair, I wasn't sure if the accident would haunt my mind every time I drove it afterwards...even with the modern miracles well equipped panel beaters can perform.

Went on a lot of cruises in this car and I can fairly say I cut my teeth in it. Also went to 4-5 skidpans and a track day as well. A lot of great memories.

And so in the mean time, I went back to Melbourne and took the chance to bring up my weekend/project...



Something I picked up shortly after high school just before people started asking an arm and leg for them. It is merely a 2+2, but I rate its lines over the SWB 2 seater models if executed correctly. But then again, of course I'd say that.



Always was very gentle with this car assuming it be quite fragile, but when I brought it to Sydney, I really learnt what it was capable of. Even on the drive up the hume, it just chewed up the miles with effortless overtaking and a needle firmly set at a safe temperature. All this at around 10.xL/100km at the speed limit.

Mainly had to give it a squeeze to keep up with mates...



Car is a phenomenal performer for how old it is, and what skinny tyres it had (175 profile on stockies), would have been a hoot.5 when they first came out. The torque from the L26 is great for a daily. However, the heavy steering and general wear that was being done to the car while it was used as a daily was breaking my </3 . Living close to the ocean doesn't help rust either. So I knew I wouldn't be keeping it for much longer in this capacity..

First change:



Letterbox grille with foggy cutouts!

The aussie grille reminded me of an ae82 front end, even with the Kouki headlights and corner lamps so it had to go. It was held on my zipties so was quite straightforward removing it and putting the new grille in, which clicked in seamlessly. And yeap, looks like another sucker going for an ADM 2 JDM conversion..

New Headunit was installed (tried to choose a design that wasn't to offensive to the OEM interior). Also cool having bluetooth in a car this old!!

And replaced the 4" speakers (pictured) with some new old stock JBL units.



Have to say that the the JBL's are quite impressive unamped for how much they cost and have a lot of clarity up high. Would love to go some bigger speakers, but the space constraints in the speaker housing seem pretty obvious!
