I'm close to pulling the trigger on a brand new 1.5way Cusco Type RS LSD, having already priced it up against KAAZ and Tomei units (Tomei 1.5way not available from Japan, only USA.)
For those also interested, here is their guide to the unit:
On paper it reads well, and has the options of being configured in both 1.5 and 2 way, as well as arranging the clutch plates for a 60, 80 or 100% lock.
I'm particularly interested in this unit as my car is a street car, that will likely see more hill runs than drifting - but with the occasional track day thrown in.
It will likely be coupled with new Weir 4.3 pinion and ring gear set.
I am looking for feedback on those that have driven using one, the settings you are using, and both pros and cons of it. I have searched both on English and Japanese websites and there isn't much useful feedback
Other feedback of the other unit is also welcomed.

I just went through the same process, and after much deliberation, purchased an os. They are 1.5, never had a recorded failure and don't require a run in. Waiting on install some time in the coming weeks.
My initial choice was the cusco rs 1.5way but changed my mind and went osg. Konakid runs a cusco rs in the rona with great success.

They're at the top of the price bracket (and for good reason, I hear) but a little more than I want to spend. I've got pricing on a new Cusco unit for between $1,150 and $1,200 depending on shipping options, direct from Cusco Japan (through a broker of course). I'm hoping to be under $2,000 for the full diff build of bearings and new gear set.

I've run two LSDs. A new F series Tomei, and a used T series Cusco. I ran both of them in doing figure 8s. Both have performed flawlessly since, they don't carry on when driving normally, don't spin the inside coming out of corners and will hang the tail out as soon as you want to (that's a lie, one is fitted to a 4AC powered vehicle, so that requires rain, bad tyres and encouragement to move the rear. No fault of the diff though).
My point being that while there are various options, and when you're spending that sort of money you want to get something good, but I think you will not be disappointed whichever one you choose.
I ended up purchasing the Cusco RS unit and will update you on how it drives whenever my bloody car gets finished (and I get off my ass and finish it)
So far, it is a very nice looking unit and suuuuper easy to reconfigure and pull apart. You have preload adjustment in the amount of springs, lock adjustment in the clutch plates, as well as the ability to have it as a 1.5 or a 2 way.
In the pic of centre out, with the clutch plates - please ignore their orientation. they must all be in line for the oil gallery to flow through.
I reconfigured it from a 1.5way with 100% lock to a 1.5way with 80% lock. They're all shipped with 100% lock and in the booklet provided (all in Japanese) they do warn that with 100% lock you may experience low speed chirping.

Great post with detailed photos and information. Kudos to you! I was deliberating on an rs unit but didn't find too much information to sway me towards it. This sort of information will be very beneficial to those looking to purchase an lsd in the near future.
