Go the MX5. $5k should get you a decent one that's good to go as a weekender.
If you're looking to get an AE86 for that price it's likely to be a POS in need of a lot of work (and $$$).
Bought myself a Crown for daily duties, looking for a fun weekend car now.
Budget is a bit low after spending nearly $40k on the Crown lol
Really want a lightweight rwd car and have been looking at MX-5s as the AE86 seems out of my budget range..
Wondering if I should try wait out for something or just keep looking for a good MX-5
Don't care about cosmetics as long as it mechanically runs well and has a 4a-ge.

Not gonna get anything decent in the ae86 world for $5k with a 4age. Your choices will either be a fairly nice stocker with a 4ac or a totall flogged out rust bucket with a 4age in it.
If your budget is $5k, then as above, go with the mx5

Cheers guys.
Saw a couple for 6k recently but I heard one of them was garbage. Figured I'd ask anyway so I don't get my hopes up haha
You can get lucky, but you'll be looking for a while.

Well he just missed out on a 20v ae86 for $2700, so it does happen from time to time.
you need to check every Avenue of sales multiple times a day, alot of people looking to flip/wreck them for a few $$
