Buy it itsstill a super bargain! Its straighter than most but a bit rough overall.
Hello everyone,
My name's Sel, short for Selcuk. I was born and bred in the UK but am now living in Turkey, where cars are bloody expensive! This forum looks like a nice place so I'll stick around...and possibly move your furniture about a bit
So, to the crux of the matter. I have been offered this what I believe to be an AE86 1.6SR for basically peanuts (around 400USD). The car starts and drives, bodywork is really nice with no rust on it or the chassis. Just a few bits that are missing (headlights, taillights, bits of trim) but overall pretty good.
Obviously I'll be working on it changing suspension, wheels and the engine (at a later date) and some other bits and bobs too.
I was having a browse around the internet and I think I've been led to believe that this car could be an AE85? Is this possible? If it's an 85 would it still be worth purchasing even though there's a ton of differences between it and the 86?
Any help will be much appreciated!
Sel

Cheers mate!
She's a little rough around the edges but I'm sure I can bring her back to her former glory. I'm gonna need some parts but finding them here is a little difficult!
Doing some more digging the 1.6 SR engine is the 4AC if I'm correct, which would indicate that this is an AE86, but I'd like to do an engine swap later down the line with maybe a K20, C18 or SR20 engine. Nothing too lairy though, a couple of hundred BHP would be enough for a little car like this I reckon.
Who would be the usual go-to guy for parts around here?
For suspension stuff Techno Toy tuning in California.
Group 4 fabrications in Ireland have amazing stuff also.
For whatever OEM stuff is available there's Yahoo japan or there's Ebay.
Id be trying to find another beater for a parts car locally if possible.
If you want to order from Australia AJPS in South Australia sells a lot of cool stuff.
Look for Japan Import companies in your area that buy and sell cars.
Ive even ordered some new oem ae86 stuff from Abhu Dhabi before.
To discover if ae86 or ae85 you should have a build plate on the dash under the bonnet.
Excellent, thanks a lot.
I'll be browsing the websites you recommended over the weekend to start picking some bits up.
My friend has an 86 too but I have more chance getting a BJ from the queen than having parts from him, plus the fact that 86s are extremely rare here in Turkey, there's no cars or parts for sale on the websites I visit.
I'm afraid there's no Japanese import companies here either, it's an LHD country!
I don't currently have access to the car but I'll find out what the build plate says.
I'm also looking at engines for a possible swap, could anyone identify the engine below and would it be good for a swap?
