This is cheap insurance:
Hi y'all,
I have a 4AGE20V Blacktop in my Westfield SE. I'm about to renew the cam belt. I have always worried about the hydraulic tensioner as I've been told it's troublesome and failure is catastrophic on a Blacktop as it's an interference engine.
Has anyone here done this mod? I believe you can use a 10mm Cap screw (Allen head) and a locking nut. Does anyone know bolt length etc?
As this is basically a trackday car it spends most of it's time between 4000-8000 and a valve crash would be the end of it....and I REALLY enjoy the 4AGE!!
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks
David

The blacktop tensioner is a 100k service item... have never had an issue with them, but always replaced with the belt.
Some companies sell the drilled out tensioner with the appropriate sized bolt already.
