Type 9 conversion question

Hi all, first post.

I am looking at getting a Type 9 for my Ae86 tarmac rally car. I am about to get the gearbox built in the UK and the gearbox builder is asking what input shaft length I need? Apparently there are two types as fitted to 1.6/2.0 and slightly longer as fitted to 2.8's I am am guessing 1.6/2.0 but does anyone know for sure?

Hi Gary, you need the shorter 1.6 / 2.0L type.
You can use an MGB clutch plate if you are using the 200mm flywheel, alternatively Helix can supply a proper motorsport paddle clutch for your application:
From memory you can use the standard release bearing carrier but it will need to be milled out a bit. The gearlever will be further back. I used a single piece propshaft without issue.
If your bellhousing is not the original RM sport (it will be stamped as such) check that the gearbox/bellhousing mates to an engine before trying to fit it to the car!

If you are going Quaife (or similar) ratios they work really well on 13" wheels and a 4.778 Final Drive.
